Welcome! To our delightful Austrian chalet, 'Chalet Primel' in the traditional village of 'Stadl an der Mur' within the River Mur Valley (Murtal) . Nestled between the mountains, this comfortable, well equipped 4 bedroomed chalet looks out across the valley over the village. It has been built by a local builder in the traditional style and is situated in a small development that includes an outdoor pool in the summer.
The village of 'Stadl an der Mur' lies on the borders of the provinces of Salzburg, Styria and Carinthia, with the Italian and Slovenian borders 3 to 4 hours away (see travel section for location map). The area is known primarily for its many lakes and mountain ranges. This region offers something for everyone being truly a dual season resort. It enjoys over 200 days of sunshine, so in the spring/summer, umpteen hiking trails amongst stunning scenery (both the Nockberge National Park and Grebenzen Nature park are nearby), white water rafting and numerous cycle routes covering all levels of ability, can be explored. For the winter sports enthusiasts there are 7 ski mountain areas locally (altitudes up to 2222m), catering for all abilities amongst the beautiful backdrop of the Austrian Alps. A narrow gauge train and bus service provide transportation to the local ski area at Kreischberg if you prefer not to drive - the drive takes about 7 mins. Below are pictures of the development (views 2&3) and the view of Stadl village from the development (view 1).
The village itself has several shops including two supermarkets, butcher's, chemist and baker's, a small hotel and several restaurants. In the centre of the village is a beautiful lake, fed by a natural spring for bathing in the summer months, becoming an ice skating rink during the winter season. There is also a football pitch, tennis courts, volleyball court and a well equipped childrens play area, as well as a cafe for refreshments - great garlic sticks!
Within the website, you should find the answers to all questions about your holiday, however if you do have any unanswered questions, please contact us. I have included in the summer/winter pages, website links that should give you all the detailed information you need to plan your holiday. In addition you will find in the chalet itself, brochures in both English and German covering things 'to do in Murtal'. The tourist office in Murau can supply detailed maps for walking and cycling. If you wish to holiday with a larger party of friends and family I can supply you with a list of owners from our neighbouring chalets who are happy to rent out their homes.
Have a fabulous holiday - we always do!
