Travel to Stadl an der Mur

By car:

Using the channel tunnel by car it will take approximately 12/13 hours from Calais.  Both www.theaa.co.uk and www.rac.co.uk  offer route maps for the complete journey.

By air:

In the ski season, it is possible to fly from regional airports (Bournemouth, Bristol and Southampton for example) to Salzburg using the budget airlines, ie Thomsonfly, Flybe etc.  Outside the winter season, British Airways and Ryanair run regular flighs to Salzburg from London Gatwick and London Stansted.  To fly into Innsbruck you can fly Easyjet from LGW, Bristol or Liverpool, alternatively Austrian Airlines from Birmingham.  Ryannair fly from Stansted to Graz Airport.  For Klagenfurt , Ryannair fly from Stansted and Thomsonfly from Manchester.

from Munich airport: 3 hrs 25 mins by car (306km)

from Innsbruck airport: 3 hrs 16 mins by car (311km) from Vienna airport: 3 hrs by car (262km)

from Graz airport:  1 hr 50 mins by car (144km)

from Klagenfurt airport: 1 hr 26 mins by car (78km)

Car hire:

Lots of choice at all airports for car hire.  We have used two company's whom we found to be reasonable:  http://www.opodo.co.uk  and www.comparecarrental.com - both of who link up with the major car hire companies - approximately £26 per day for a compact car.  

In Austria by law, winter tyres must be used in the winter months./  We have found the roads are well cleared.  You will also notice that Austrians have their headlights on full time as visibility amongst the clouds can alter quickly.

The onward journey by hire car from Salzburg is very easy, a good main road, (no precipices).  We initially hired a 'satnav' from the hire car company for approx 6 euros a day, which was very useful whilst getting used to driving on the other side of the road!  We would recommend that you have a car to allow  you to fully explore the local area.

By Rail:

You can get to Stadl an der Mur from Salzburg.  Please look at www.Oebb.at or www.raileurope.com for more information.   However it is not easy and time consuming.
